All of Tanguito’s latest news and events will be published here. So, if you want to know what we’re up to, come back here often! After all, we are busy tangoing bees – tango classes, milongas, tango holidays, tango festivals… We don’t often get bored and suspect that you neither! :-)
February 2016
Class video & notes – 17/02/2016
Dimension: Speed - Theme: Fundamentals of changes of speed (and fun, quick steps)
To start our new theme, we focused on musicality, and studied 2 little steps that are really nice to mark the end of the musical phrase. For intermediates+, we saw a version of the baby ocho and the corte, which can be used on rhythmical orchestras or to mark the end of musical phrases.
February 2016 – End of term review
This week marks the end of our Academic Term focusing on the Tango Dimension Embrace and on Rodriguez orchestra. Time to review what you've learned!
Class video & notes – 14/02/2016
Dimension: The embrace - Theme: Review
In this class, we applied two important concepts that we have studied over the past month (opening & closing the embrace and grounding & lifting) to a couple of beautiful, romantic steps using ochos and a lapiz.
Class video & notes – 10/02/2016
Dimension: The embrace - Theme: Grounding technique
The grounding technique is very useful to create a lot of steps, including barridas and planeos. Basically it is a technique used to stop the follower at a particular point in her transfer of axis. We used this step today in a pretty planeo, a 360-degree turn and a barrida. Variety is the spice of life!
Overtaking…
The only accepted way to overtake a couple on the dance floor seems to be on the left...
Class video & notes – 03/02/2016
Dimension: The embrace - Theme: Lifting technique
Lifting is a great technique to have the follower move their free leg, for example to go over in a pasada or a parada step. We can also use this technique in the cross to create cross/uncross effects or rebounds in and out of the cross. Very unique, yet very salon.
Videos we ❤ – Tribute to Aníbal Troilo
Aníbal Troilo (July 11, 1914 – May 18, 1975), also known as "Pichuco", was an Argentinian bandoneon player, composer, arranger and bandleader. We hope you enjoy these few performances on his music.
January 2016
Class video & notes – 27/01/2016
Dimension: The embrace - Theme: Mixed energy in open embrace
In this class, we started with an americana position and developed a couple of versions leading us to a giro with a fancy back enrosque. The sky is the limit! :-)
2 song translations by Enrique Rodriguez
You all know we love Rodriguez, his sense of rhythm, combined with his contagious melodies makes us want to stand up to dance. Here are 2 songs he composed and that we liked so much, we translated them, in video too!!!!
Class video & notes – 24/01/2016
Dimension: The embrace - Theme: Mixed energy in close embrace
In this class, we focused on how to lead and follow rebounds in close embrace, first on the half beat and then a slow rebound that is very suitable for soft melodic tangos. We also looked at more complex combinations using a rebound and the very useful grounding technique.
