What a fun afternoon in perspective! Today Los Ocampo give a masterclass on Canyengue, the ‘tango before tango’!
Canyengue is the oldest form of Argentine tango dance style and is characterised by a close embrace and slight “V” position. Today Los Ocampo (Mónica & Omar), who share a partnership of over 30 years made up of performing and teaching Tango and Folklore around the world, will be our guests. Don’t miss this opportunity to dance with legends, and discover how tango was danced in the 20s, and what heritage we benefit today from those who danced in Buenos Aires, before tango became a worldwide phenomenon.
They will teach both the 2pm (Improvers) and 3pm (Intermediates) before Omar takes over as our honoured Tango DJ for the evening. What a feast!
Programme
- 2PM Beginners class (Level 1, 1 hour): TANGO: MY FIRST MEDIA LUNA. You will discover this iconic step, a beautiful movement in which the leader is making the follower rotate. For further classes check our Beginners page for our beginner curriculum & offers.
- 2PM Improvers class (Level 2, 1 hour): OCHO & MEDIA LUNA VARIATIONS. Add some fun variations to make it even more exciting!
- Classes with With Will & Esra and Los Ocampo.
- 3PM MASTERCLASS with Los Ocampo (Level 3 & 4, 1.5 hour): DANCING CANYENGUE & ITS HERITAGE IN TANGO. Discover how tango was danced back then, and what we can learn from our ancestors, to enrich our tango today. An eye opening masterclass.
- 4.30PM MILONGA Los Angelitos, in our beautiful hall. TDJ OMAR! Nibbles available; you can BYOB or cakes if you want to share (or not) :-).
